To evoke in oneself a feeling one has once experienced, and having evoked it in oneself, then, by means of movements, lines, colors, sounds, or forms expressed in words, so to transmit that feeling that others may experience the same feeling — this is the activity of art –Tolstoy
All of everything and nothing less
It is very clear that Sarie Bettineski’s art is an absolute expression of her own emotions & intuitions, so personal to her, that her paintings are a direct window to her soul.
Sarie paints for purpose, every brush stroke a reflection of the intention of her movement in the time. For her, art is an extension of her own personality, who she is and how she creates. “Acrylic and I go way back” was her response when I asked her about her chosen medium, and in that statement there is no denying the connection she has with her process. She understands and owns, that she is the ultimate source of her expression and she doesn’t hold back. She knows why she creates and what her message conveys and she has no qualms about sharing it, for her it is all of everything and nothing less.
As to who has inspired her: “Artemisia hands down has been an influential artist in my work and life, her work is intense. Beautiful. You can feel her through her art. She was a master, in an era when only men got the attention”.
Being the messenger of stories that she is, Sarie further explained that Artemisia was assaulted by a mentor artist at 15. She had to stand trial and the court nailed her fingers to a board to make sure she wasn’t lying. She won her case, which at this time was rare-beyond rare.. Still today she isn’t studied with the honor of works created she is due.
Sarie is a multi-disciplined visual artist and storyteller. She has been painting forover 20 years, studied at PNCA for her BFA in Fine Art, minor in Creative Writing and minor in Art History and PCC where she studied Philosophy, Art & History.
Sarie serves on the Board of Directors with the Portland Psychedelic Society as theEvents Coordinator/Chair, hosting the monthly talk of Psychedelic Scholars:Art, Religion & Philosophy and Empowering Voices: Integration for Survivors of Sexual/Domestic Abuse.
