Artists Bio
David Slader is an Oregon painter, digital artist, sculptor, and photographer. His youthful art ambitions were detoured by an almost forty-year career as a litigator, child-advocate, and attorney for survivors of sexual abuse. Those experiences are reflected in David’s art in a distinctive visual blend of vibrant energy, thoughtful reflection and optimistic playfulness. David is largely self-taught. In his regular ArtLetters to his contacts, David shares his reflections about art controversies, Portland art exhibits and his own work-in-progress. Originally from Chicago—and still a passionate Cubs fan—David and his wife, Barbara, live in Portland’s historic Irvington neighborhood. His studio is in the Coast Range foothills, along an oxbow of the Upper Nehalem River where a run of Fall Chinook salmon spawn outside his studio door.
David has been represented by Gallery 903 and Gallery 114. He has exhibited at the Ford Gallery, the Arlene Schnitzer concert hall, The Armory, Alexander Gallery and Portland Center Stage. His work has been reviewed by Oregon Arts Watch and featured in Artslandia Magazine, Willamette Week, Street Roots, Oregon Jewish Life and The Oregon State Bar Bulletin. David has been interviewed about his art on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Think Out Loud and KBOO’s Art Focus. Oregon Arts Watch has described his work as “boldly declarative and mysteriously elusive.”
David is an advocate for, and collector of, Raw Art by prison inmates and artists with distinctive cognitive and intellectual perspectives.
